Long overdue

Long overdue

That’s exactly what this blog post is!

As many of you probably know, I went to the Tulsa MOE. That’s why the May spotlights didn’t happen; I just had other things on my mind. But now I’m back, with June spotlights, a directory update, a reading list update, and some new chapters over on Extemporaneous.

I’ve also been talking to someone about hosting her stories, but it’s still in the works. I’ll let you guys now when it’s a done deal.

I know this isn’t much of a blog, but oh well. If you want to know a little more about where I stand, writing wise, right now, check out the blog I just posted on Extemporaneous.

Late but worth the wait!

Late but worth the wait!

I’m so sorry for the massive delay here! Although I finally have high speed internet, it’s only mobile broadband so I have to be a bit sparing with my usage. It is at least more functional, if only for small amounts of time. I’m writing this from a coffee shop, however. And I have lots of updates for you, to make up for my absence!

Firstly, I’ve finally updated the directory, adding a few links and deleting a few outdated ones. On that note, you’ll notice that Diamond has, at least temporarily, taken her website down. You can still read her collab with Jesse-may, Before It Breaks.

Secondly, I’ve updated the spotlights for March, a week late. This month, I’m featuring my new awards, Blank Page Awards, my friend Liz’s story Tiny Dancer and an interview with my other friend Alecia. Fun stuff!

Lastly… the awards! It’s been almost a year since I ran the last round of Thieves and Liars, and although I loved those awards, they had definitely run their course. It was time for something new. So, here comes the Blank Page Awards! Nominations start in a few weeks, so go check it out now and get ready to submit yours. I hope we all have a ton of fun with it!

And I think that’s it for now. I am still updating a few of my stories off and on, so check those out if you like, too.

Lots of newness!

Lots of newness!

Just what it says on the tin, folks. I’ve got lots of awesome new stuff to share with you.

First up, I’ve spent the last two weeks doing a major overhaul on the directory. The big things you’ll notice are the new layout and the massive amount of new sites, but I’ve made lots of other changes as well. Here’s the breakdown.

  • Over 500 new/old links added.
  • Around 100 broken, incorrect or redundant links deleted.
  • Several titles and warnings corrected.
  • Links broken down into more pages for less scrolling.
  • Larger headings so you can more easily find what you want.
  • “Other” section sorted into columns for easier reading.
  • Larger columns so none of the long titles wrap onto the next line.
  • Bigger font, much easier to read.
  • More contrast between background and link color.
  • Visited links appear a different color.
  • A lot of those changes seem pretty minor and I imagine most of you don’t really care, but I just felt like sharing. There’s so many little things that go into coding these pages to give you guys the best experience possible and sometimes I just feel like bragging sharing.

Next up on the list of news! New hostees!

Jesse-may, the author of the month, recently closed her domain and admitted in the interview that she was starting to regret the decision. She didn’t like transferring everything to LiveJournal but also couldn’t justify paying for a domain that wasn’t seeing much use. I had the perfect solution — hosting on my domain! So click here to visit The Truth In Lies. She’s still moving in, but soon you’ll be able to read such stories on the site as Last Summer and Fire and Ice.

The second new hostee has a similar story. Just a few days later, Diamond tweeted that she was closing down her domain and only posting to LiveJournal from now on. I suggested that if she ever missed having a site, she was welcome here. She quickly took me up on the offer. You can visit her site, Mirage, by clicking here. On it, you’ll find such stories as Ships and The Consequence of Feeling.

As for my own sites and stories, there are updates coming soon. I’m doing some reorganizing on Extemporaneous and I plan to upload all of that once I can steal some wifi. I’m also working on another new layout for this site, as I haven’t been nearly as happy with this template as I hoped I would be. But that’s not going to be coming soon for quite some time.

Hope you guys enjoy today’s updates. If nothing else, it ought to give you plenty to read for quite a while.

Back from hiatus with lots of new stuff!

Back from hiatus with lots of new stuff!

I’m back, and I must say, it feels great. While there’s still a lot of drama in my life, I no longer feel like letting that keep me from updating my websites. I’m feeling very motivated and very excited about the world of hanfic, even if we are in a bit of a lull right now. As you can see, I’ve given the site a total facelift. I had said I wouldn’t debut this layout until July, but I was just too excited to keep it bottled up much longer.

So what’s new around here? Well, obviously the layout. Here are few more things you might notice around the site…

    Small update and some news

    Small update and some news

I made a teensy update to the directory today, with a mix of about twenty old and new sites. But that’s not the main reason I’m posting this blog. I actually wanted to let you guys know about two upcoming events in the hanfic world.

First, is the new round of The Spark Inside, hosted by Brittney. I had hoped to feature it on the spotlights this year, but it didn’t work out that way. But that’s alright; I can still tell you guys about it. This year participants get to submit a bunch of different prompts that will get shuffled up and assigned to everyone. Sounds challenging, but fun! I’ve already signed up and you should too — you’ve got about two weeks to do so before the writing period starts.

Second, is the new round of Thieves and Liars. Again, this round (the first in a year) brings some changes, but I think they will all ultimately improve the experience for everyone. Some rules have been lifted (friends only stories are now allowed), while others are being enforced more harshly (no multiple votes and the vote form must be filled out completely). Nat has graciously stepped in to help with the vote counting so you can be sure that everything will be accurate and fair. Since things will be a bit different this time around, I’ve already put the site up even though it doesn’t start for a month. Plenty of time to pick out your favorite stories — and for some new stories to appear too!

So there you are. Lots of stuff to do this spring. I think we’re all getting out of our collective winter funk and I couldn’t be more excited for all the good things that will bring.
