Last reviews of 2014!

Last reviews of 2014!

Well, here we are. Very nearly the end of the fifth year of PTH! In even better news (for me), I’m getting new, unlimited wifi installed as we speak! For now, I’m posting this from the old wifi, but the new stuff, sans data limit, will be up and running very, very soon. And that means streaming music! Streaming movies! HANSON LIVESTREAMS!

Okay. Sorry. Getting control of myself now. You’re here for the reviews, right? Well, they are…

Unfortunately, there was no Anthem era story finished for me to review this month, but I’m hopeful there will be at least one next month. Either way, I’ll be reviewing:

Those reviews may be just a bit delayed, as I’ll be reading some of the stories from my phone… at the airport… on the way to Cancun! 😀

Reviews and news

Reviews and news

First, before I get into the reviews, I want to thank everybody who has voted in the Blank Page Awards! We’re in a tiebreaker round now that will end on Friday, so if you could please go vote in that and help me untie the handful of ties, I would really appreciate it.

And now… the reviews! I think I set some sort of record this month. All but two of the stories I actually reviewed are different from the ones on the list I posted last month. Thanks to missing chapters, missing content and stories that just weren’t complete like I thought they were, a lot of things had to change. On the plus side, an Anthem era story I’ve been loving was finished and…

HansonFiction.com is archived again! I didn’t review any stories from there this month, but I did add a few back into my overall plan. I’ve had a few questions here about how to access those old stories, and I’m happy to say that the links I’ve provided to them do work again!

Okay. With the good news out of the way, here’s the list of stories I actually reviewed this month:

And up for review next month…

And with my reviews done for now, it’s time for me to dive back into NaNoWriMo. See you in December!

October reviews!

October reviews!

Well, as usual, I had to make a few little changes to my review plan, thanks to the issue I mentioned before with HansonFiction.com. But the reviews went fairly well, and here are the stories I ended up with this month:

And unless things have to change again, the stories for next month are…:

I’ve also updated my Reading List to reflect the changes I’ve had to make to my schedule and list a few new and upcoming stories I’m reading or will be reading.

And don’t forget to head over to the Blank Page Awards to get your nominations in! I’m going to post a list of the nominees in progress today, and there’s just under a week left until nominations close.

A new year of reviews begins…

A new year of reviews begins…

This year of reviews has gotten off to a stressful start. First, I found missing chapters and had to replace a story. Then, I was waiting nervously to see if an Anthem era story would be finished in time, and luckily one was. So the final list of stories for this month is:

In addition to my reviews, I have two bonus reviews from Elizabeth, of Bed of Lies by Brittney and Songs Left Unsung by yours truly. You can find those under the Strong Enough To Break and Shout It Eras, respectively.

Assuming nothing goes wrong, my schedule for next month is:

I’ve also updated the directory today, so feel free to check that out. And check back in a few days for some exciting news about… well… you’ll see 😉

Year Two Recap

Year Two Recap

I’ll keep it brief this time, because I really didn’t learn anything new or different about hanfic that I hadn’t already figured out in year one.

The stories I picked for this year were a mixture of popular classics, stories I thought had been quite popular and a few unknown ones. Because of that, I’ll admit, there were quite a few disappointing picks on the list, but a small few I was pleasantly surprised by. It helped to keep in mind that when some of these early stories felt cliche, they really weren’t; they were actually the stories that created the tropes I know roll my eyes at.

So, what’s the plan for next time? Well, a few more classics. There are only a handful left online that I haven’t read yet, and I’m going to finally cross those off my list. Then there are some stories that were quite popular in their day, some that were even singled out by Various Artists as quality stories, but for whatever reason, didn’t retain that popularity. I’m really fascinated by those, even though I know they have the potential to be really disappointing.

Other than all of that, I’m throwing in a few rereads and hopefully reviewing a few I’ve been reading for quite some time that have just been finished or will hopefully be finished soon. I’m excited and hopeful for what this year, possibly my last year of reviews, will hold. But before I start on those, here are the final rankings of this year’s stories:
