Reviews… finally!

Reviews… finally!

You guys… this month’s reviews have given me fits. I can’t even begin to explain all the problems I had with them. And then, once I finally published the last review, I discovered that there’s a limit to how many items I can put in a drop down menu on WordPress. Unless I left stories off, I just had too many to list. So I had do away with the drop downs. Sorry for any inconvenience that causes.

At least the reviews are done, and yes, it is a different list than what I had previously posted. The stories are:

To read the stories, click on the links above. To read the reviews, go here.

You’ll also notice a review from Paola has been added. She reviewed the story Look To The Stars, which I had previously reviewed. Hers is the second one listed, and provides a slightly different perspective from mine.

More on visitor contributions in a bit! First, the stories I plan to review next month:

And those are the last stories of my Year of Reviews! But… I’m doing a second year! I’ve added all of those stories to my reading list, so check that out. Some are re-reads, so they’re already listed as read. I’ll be adding Anthem era stories to the reviews as I can, hopefully adding up to twelve by the end of the second year of reviews.

Now that I’ve said all of that… let me get serious for a moment. I am so grateful to Paola for writing a review. She’s been a great supporter and contributor to the site, because I think she and I have a pretty similar way of interacting with hanfic. To some, I probably seem too serious about it, but that’s because this is how I enjoy things. I studied English. Being critical, studying things, dissecting them… that’s fun for me. It’s just what I do. I also have a serious DIY ethic. If I see something that needs to be done (such as creating a replacement for HansonFiction.com and Various Artists), and no one else is doing it, then I’ll do it. But I made this site for you guys — so when you see something missing, wrong or just something else that needs to be done, let me know! I can’t make this site everything to everyone, but with your help, I can make it a hell of a lot more awesome.

On that note, I’m done rambling… for now.

New album and new reviews!

New album and new reviews!

If you guys aren’t too busy listening to Anthem, how about a few reviews to read? I may post a review of the album, as well. I’m still working on it. For now, enjoy these story reviews:

Read them here. If you have trouble finding any of those, remember that I have listed each of the Lucy & Taylor trilogy stories separately.

Up for review next month are…

Those may be short, but I think they’ll be good! Check back in about a month to read the reviews.

Reviews!

Reviews!

It’s that time of the month again! Time for a new bunch of reviews. Here are the stories I reviewed this month:

Reviews and such.

Reviews and such.

I always try to get these reviews posted around the fifteenth of the month, and I think this is the first time I’ve been late rather than early. Blame Camp NaNoWriMo, and check out Extemporaneous to see where I am with both it and my other writing. But if you’re just interested in the reviews and updates here, then keep reading!

The stories I reviewed this month were:

Yes, that is a slightly different list than I posted last month. That seems to happen every time, doesn’t it? This time, I realized that one of my previous reviews was in the wrong era. Because I want to keep things even (at the end of August, I’ll have twelve stories/series reviewed for each era), I skipped the Underneath Era this time and reviewed two Strong Enough To Break Era stories instead.

Speaking of those eras, I’ve given the entire reviews section a makeover. It’s in WordPress now, which will make it far easier for me to update. It should also be a bit easier to navigate. While I haven’t given up on my eras, the menu now has a drop down thingy, so that if you just hover over each era, you’ll see the full list of stories from that era which I have reviews for. That should save you a few clicks and make it easier to find what you’re looking for.

So go check it out and read those reviews! And check back next month to see reviews of the following stories:

But before you go! I’m still working on the new content for next month, and I need your help!

There are a lot of tropes that get repeated in hanfic over and over again, and others have attempted to compile lists of them, but I wanted to make a list of my own. What are tropes? Well, they’re sort of like cliches, but without the negative connotation. They’re concepts, plots, etc that occur in lots of stories. They might become cliche, but they wouldn’t be written over and over if people didn’t enjoy them. So, when you think about hanfic, what tropes come to mind?

Leave a comment here, email me or send me a tweet about tropes in hanfic!

March Reviews

March Reviews

First and foremost, a happy early birthday to a certain keyboard player! I’m sure he isn’t reading this, but it’s close enough to his birthday that it seemed like I ought to say something about it.

Secondly, it’s time for the monthly reviews! I’ve just posted reviews for the following stories:

Just one change from the list I posted before, thanks to some missing links. Also, if you look at the reviews, you’ll notice that there is no listing for Lost Without Each Other Trilogy. Because each story was so long and distinct from the previous one, I listed them seperately. You’ll find them listed under If You Read This, You’ll Never Escape and Whether You Want To Or Not.

Now that that’s all explained, here’s the list of stories I plan to review for next month:

So that looks like a fun month! Since I’m doing Camp NaNoWriMo, I tried to pick some shorter stories. Check back in the middle of April to see my reviews!

And before you go, if you haven’t taken my survey yet, please do so. It will help me to make PTH a better experience for you. In fact, I’ve already started on a few new/improved features based on the feedback I’ve received so far! Fill it out here.
